What Our Customers Are Saying
Product Information
Oklahoma Blue Flagstone, also frequently known by as Blue Patio Stone, Oklahoma Blue Stone, Oklahoma Blue Flagstone Pavers, or Blue Sandstone, offers a distinct, cool toned elegance that sets it apart from traditional yellow or tan flagstone. These natural stone pieces feature beautiful, deep blue-grey hues with subtle veining and oxidation, creating a sophisticated, natural look for any outdoor space. Because this is a natural, hand quarried stone, every piece provides unique, organic shapes and textures, ensuring that your patio, walkway, or garden path is truly one-of-a-kind.
🧮 Skip the Guesswork: Unsure how much flagstone you need? Use our Material Calculator (linked at the top of the page). Input your total area length and width, and we’ll help you determine the coverage required to get your patio or walkway project done right.
Flagstone is a premium natural material that requires careful installation to create a stable, beautiful, and long-lasting surface.
- Clear and Prep: Excavate the target area to a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches, removing sod and organic topsoil to reach the firm, native earth beneath.
- Structural Base: Install a 3 to 4-inch base of crushed road base or limestone screenings. Compact this layer firmly using a plate compactor to create a rock-solid foundation that will prevent your stone from shifting.
- Setting Bed: Add a 1-inch layer of masonry sand or a fine limestone screening over your compacted base. Screed this level to create a smooth setting bed for the stone.
- Placement: Lay your Oklahoma Blue Flagstone pieces. Take your time to arrange them, tapping each piece down with a rubber mallet until they are stable and level with one another.
- Joint Filling: Fill the gaps between stones with fine masonry sand or decomposed granite. Once filled, sweep the excess off the top and lightly mist with water to help the joint material settle.
Patio Surfaces: Creates a stunning, cool-toned outdoor living area that stands out from standard concrete.
Walkways and Garden Paths: Offers a natural, high-end surface for navigating your garden or connecting home entryways.
Pool Decks: Provides a beautiful, naturally slip-resistant surface that looks exceptional against water features.
Landscape Accents: Perfect for creating natural, irregular stone stepping stones through garden beds or around feature plants.
Surface Cleaning: Rinse with water to remove dirt, mud, or pollen. Avoid harsh chemicals or high-pressure power washing, as this can degrade the stone's natural surface and mortar joints over time.
Joint Maintenance: If the joint sand washes away over time, simply sweep in a fresh layer of masonry sand or fine granite to keep the stones locked tight and prevent weed growth.
Sealing (Optional): If you want to maintain the deep, vibrant blue-grey colors of the stone, you can apply a natural stone enhancer/sealer. This also adds a layer of protection against staining.

What gives Oklahoma Blue Flagstone its blue-grey color? The unique color is a natural characteristic of the sandstone sourced from specific regions of Oklahoma. The minerals present in the stone during its formation create those rich, cool blue-grey tones, which often feature subtle, natural color variation that makes every pallet unique.
Do I need a foundation for a flagstone patio? Yes. To prevent your stone from cracking or shifting over time, you must install a foundation of compacted road base or limestone screenings. This prevents the stone from settling unevenly into the ground, which is the leading cause of cracked flagstone.
Is this stone suitable for driveways? Flagstone is generally not recommended for driveways. It is designed for pedestrian traffic on patios and walkways. For driveway projects, we recommend our specialized structural materials, such as crushed limestone base or concrete.
