What Our Customers Are Saying
Product Information
40 Pound Bag of Sandy Loam Soil
Our Sandy Loam is a natural, well-balanced soil blend made primarily of sand and silt with a smaller clay component. This composition provides excellent drainage while still retaining enough moisture to support plant growth.
Sandy loam is often used as a base soil for grading, leveling, filling low areas, and preparing landscapes before adding compost or specialty soil blends. It is a cost-effective and versatile option for general soil work throughout the Austin area.
If you need a stable soil for shaping or building up areas before finishing with topsoil or garden mix, sandy loam is a reliable foundation.
How to Install Sandy Loam
- Prepare the Area
Remove debris, rocks, and vegetation. Loosen compacted ground before spreading. - Spread and Grade
Apply sandy loam evenly across the surface and shape to desired grade or slope. - Compact Lightly
For leveling or base preparation, lightly compact to create a stable surface. - Finish as Needed
Add compost, garden soil, or sod base soil on top if planting is planned.
Sandy loam works best when used as a structural layer rather than a finished planting layer.
• Avoid over-compaction if planting will follow
• Add compost or organic matter for improved fertility
• Monitor drainage in heavy rain areas
• Top with enriched soil if long-term planting is planned
Sandy loam drains well, which is ideal for Austin’s heavy rain events, but it may require nutrient amendments for sustained plant growth.
